Merry Christmas!

Another wonderful, busy year has passed, and Christmas has come again. So grateful for a happy life with great family and friends.

I received several thoughtful gifts this Christmas, but the biggest surprise I got was an iPad from my parents. Here's the first drawing I did on it using the app DrawCast.

Merry Christmas to all!

Bo Jackules

Last week I was watching ESPN with my boyfriend, and we caught one of the films on the 30 for 30 series. It was a documentary on Bo Jackson entitled You Don't Know Bo directed by Michael Bonfiglio. The film was a great presentation of the life and career of Bo Jackson, a legendary athlete who played baseball and football professionally at the same time during the late 80s and early 90s.

I had actually never heard of Bo before the documentary and I found his story fascinating. Watching the famous highlights of his career and hearing about him both personally and professional gave me an interesting viewpoint on this athlete I didn't even know about.

His rise and fall sounded to me like that of a tragic hero from classical mythology. I felt compelled to depict him as Hercules, with his famed bow and arrow, garbed in his athletic regalia.

This image and pose are based on a famous sculpture of Hercules, wearing the pelt of a lion, shooting a poisoned arrow at the Stymphalian Birds.

Greetings from New Hampshire

My recent trip to New Hampshire was so inspiring. Here are a few pics that I snapped along the way.

Chihuly Exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum

When I visited Dallas briefly this summer, I was able to catch the Dale Chihuly exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum. It was so great to see his amazing work integrated into the sprawling gardens. My family and I went around sunset, so the light caught the glass in wonderful ways.

Tony Siragusa

Today my boyfriend was watching a football game and this interesting guy, Tony Siragusa, popped on the screen. I loved his face and his lively personality. I thought he'd be a great person to do a caricature of, so I tried it out.

Digital Drawing

I'm trying to improve my digital drawing skills by working on landscapes. This particular landscape is based off a photo that I took in Newport Beach. I drew it in Corel Painter Essentials 4. Hopefully I can improve with each drawing.

Feeding America Animations

This summer Feeding America used two of my animations for their summer campaign. These are two short PSAs I began in my first year at USC and developed until about May of this year.

Feeding America is such a wonderful organization, I feel very grateful that I was able to work with them and contribute to their campaign.

Painting from Life

I finally painted recently and decided to paint my cat as he was sleeping before me. I made this in a pretty short amount time and I'm a little rusty. I'm just glad to get back into painting though.

Sketches!

The beach is one of my favorite places to sketch a quick scene.

The ultimate still-life subjects: taxidermied animals!
The drawing on the left is by Jordan Prieto. It's so nice to have someone to sketch with.

Erika at the Fair

This is a painting I did of my friend Erika on the whirly swings at the State Fair of Texas. It is part of a series of paintings I did based on the theme of fairs and festivals.

When I grow up...

When I went back home to Dallas I found a few things from my childhood. I guess you could say they are early sings of my interest in animation and stop motion.

Here is an early flip book I did of an apple.

These are some funky puppets I made. I wish I could remember how old I was when I made these crazy things.
